12 ways to self- advocate


1.Self-awareness - Key word, PRACTICE!

Practice how to ask for help in a positive way

  • Use role play

  • Simulate solution for problems

2.Stay positive- talk to people you trust and be receptive to learning the skills. Get to request help accommodations or accessibility.to stand up for yourself.


3.Support critical thinking- 

  • Sort out your weakness and strength in a non-confrontational setting

  • Develops confidence and awareness


4.Engage in problem solving

  • Clarify the problem

  • Which one confuses you the most

  • Which approaches are calming and chaotic

  • Brainstorms helpful coping strategies
